5 things that you can do to help coral reefs and beyond

1. Use your voice — Demand climate solutions, vote in local and national elections, and talk to others about climate change and solutions.

2. Donate to conservation, restoration and climate research (for coral reefs or otherwise).

There are many amazing organizations out there! Some ideas include: the Coral Restoration Foundation and the Perry Institute for Marine Science.

3. Volunteer locally — The climate crisis is a global issue and local efforts help to move the needle!

Perhaps run your own beach/park cleanup or join a local organization for one of their events. Some great organizations around Los Angeles include: Friends of the LA River, L.A. Works, Friends of Ballona Wetlands, Friends of Griffith Park, and the Silver Lake Reservoir Conservancy.

4. Incorporate small lifestyle changes — Sustainability starts with us.

  1. Move your money to smaller local credit unions and away from megabanks. Check your bank's rating here.
  2. Buy second hand (good for your wallet, good for the world).
  3. Reduce single-use plastic (but also single-use anything).
  4. Eat local and reduce meat consumption (good for our community, good for the world).
  5. Take public transport, walk/bike, or carpool when possible.

5. Believe in a better future and never give up.

It's easy to be overwhelmed and sad and feel like nothing will ever change. But every little bit of carbon we don’t emit and every bit of warming we stop is impactful and essential.
